Participation in the conference dedicated to new technologies in Ophthalmology, Athens, Greece, March 10-12.


On March 10-12 Athens (Greece) held a conference organized by Allergan company. The conference was dedicated to new technologies in ophthalmology. The conference was held at the Intercontinental athenaeum athens hotel. More than 800 ophthalmologists from around the world took part in the conference. There were 7 ophthalmologists from various cities of Russia. Ufa Eye Research Institute of Eye Diseases was represented by holder of Habilitation degree in Medicine, the Head of Vitreoretinal and Laser Surgery Department R. Fayzrakhmanov.

There was one report from Russia:

– Central retina mapping in treatment of consequences of retinal vein thrombosis with intravitreal insertion of dexamethasone implant (M. Bikbov, R. Fayzrakhmanov)
The Conference highlighted the latest achievements in ophthalmology including implants with neuroprotective function, new drainage technologies in the pathology of anterior and posterior eye segments.

The most interesting was a lecture by Bertrand Piccard, the creator of an airplane on solar batteries; it was about the possibility of developing modern technologies. The cornerstone, based on discussions, was the priority choice of using anti-vasoproliferative therapy and glucocorticoids in macular edema. In the course of the work, the main approaches to choosing a particular therapy were identified.
